GusMo (born Gus Newsome) is a Radio and Television Personality, Music Promoter, Program Director for 87.9 Heat FM in Charlotte, South Carolina and CEO of New Music Mondayz - an internet radio station which he is featured weekly.
GusMo was introduced to the music business at the age of 18 by Keith Elam aka Guru. GusMo started doing promotion for GangStarr Ill Kid Records, Group Home & Jeru Da Damaja single/albums plus tours. At that time, GusMo was interning at Payday Records Label which Group Home & Jeru Da Damaja were signed to.
It was during this time that. GusMo’s works landed him a job at Rawkus Records, which was home for Mos Def and Talib Kweli. He was second in charge of running the Street Team along with partner, Head Quaterz. Shortly after Rawkus Records folded, GusMo began working with Universal Records. His accolades landed him a position at Sotti Records where he was National Director of Marketing & Promotion/A&R M1 of Dead Prez solo album, “Confidential.” GusMo’s influences and mentors include the greats Keith Elam aka Guru and GusMo Garnet Reid.
Now GusMo is focused on moving the industry forward as he is using the radio and television platforms to discover new talent. As a music industry executive, GusMo’s experience and knowledge and expertise is unmatched.
